Importing: Preliminary Considerations
Before beginning to import, and on each importation, the importer/buyer should consider a number of preliminary matters that will make a great deal of difference in smooth and efficient importing.
A. Products
Before actually importing, or whenever the importer is considering importing a new item, the characteristics of that item should be reviewed. That is, is the product being imported as a raw material or component to be used in the manufacturing process? Is it a finished product that is going to be resold in the form imported or with some slight or significant modification? Is it a replacement or spare part?
