acknowledgments
Writing a book is a team effort. Although it's the principal author's name that appears on the cover, the book would not exist without the contributions of many different people. I'm glad that tradition allows me this opportunity to acknowledge some of those people for their efforts.
A special thanks to all the photographers who so generously contributed images to serve as examples. They include Dan Dry, Tony Guffy, Dean Lavenson, Charlotte Lowrie, Randy McCaffery, Alicia McGinnis, Bryan Moberly, Fred Reaves, Ramon Rodriguez, and Rob Sheppard. Their talents, and their images, made this book possible. On the other hand, I bear sole responsibility for the real and simulated bad examples.
I'm very grateful for the assistance of fellow author, Charlotte Lowrie, who stepped in to help ensure that the book met its publishing deadlines by contributing text in Chapters 9 and 11. Thanks to Mike Roney, acquisitions editor, for giving this book its start. Beth Taylor, served as both project editor, managing the editing process, and as copy editor, making sure my prose was readable and grammatically correct. Mike Sullivan, technical editor, helped ensure the accuracy of the text. I didn't have much direct contact with the rest of the Wiley staff working on this book, but their contributions are appreciated nonetheless. My thanks to all of you!
And finally, I wish to thank my agent, Carole McClendon of Waterside Productions, for getting me this gig.
