CHAPTER 2

The Greats Have Learned the Art of Failing More

Failure is a wonderful teacher. I have failed more times than [every] single person in this room. I promise you, I have failed at more things than any of you. I’ve written more bad jokes. I flunked out of college. I’ve been homeless. I lived in a car for three years. Lost everything I have ever owned. Twice. Lost it again in 2005.

I have had a life filled with major league setbacks, but I’ve learned through all of those setbacks. So, when I make a mistake, I get up and keep going. All of those mistakes are actually valuable experience. Don’t let your mistakes define you as a person. You’re going to mess up because you need your mess-ups to learn the lesson.
