Chapter 5. How Multi-Model Yields Agility

Better Understanding of Your Data

We live in a complex world, with complex data and a growing number of data sources. With so much data to parse, it would be impossible to fully understand what data we have right out of the gate. To add to the confusion, most of the data we have to work with is disparate and disconnected from other data sources, making it difficult to develop context. The multi-model database allows us to bring disparate data sources into a single system, resulting in an increased ability to understand the data we have. By using some of the features we have discussed, such as cross-model querying, we can gain a much better understanding of our data.

Faster Reaction Time to an Ever-Changing Environment

Data is constantly changing, and our requirements are hopefully always evolving as we gain new insights. If we don’t have a system that is flexible and scalable enough to adapt to these changes, we need to take a close look at replacing it. One of the key benefits that a multi-model database brings to any system is its ability to provide system implementers with the tools they need to react and react quickly.

Cost-Effective Prototyping

Prototyping can be a useful tool when trying to determine whether a new feature or use case is plausible and will yield the desired benefits. However, because of the sometimes high costs and time commitment associated with prototyping, system implementers are not able to use this strategy. ...
