Chapter 7. GenAIOps and LLMOps in Azure
The focus of this chapter is on practical architecture patterns and enterprise-grade techniques for AI professionals who already understand the fundamentals of LLMs and are ready to build production-ready applications. We’ll walk through the critical components required to move from experimentation to deployment on Azure, including model hosting, vector stores, orchestration frameworks, low-code integration tools, and web frontends. Along the way, we’ll explore real-world design choices, highlight trade-offs (such as cost versus performance), and provide actionable guidance for assembling scalable, secure, and maintainable GenAI solutions.
From MLOps to GenAIOps: Why It Matters
Operations in AI applications are not new. For almost a decade, enterprises have relied on MLOps (machine learning operations) to bring discipline and rigor to traditional ML and data-intensive projects. The objectives were clear: make models reproducible, ensure scalability, and manage their lifecycle with the same principles that DevOps brought to software engineering. Azure Machine Learning provided the foundations for this: pipelines for training, a model registry, automated retraining triggers, and deployment workflows. In MLOps, the center of gravity was data (curating datasets, engineering features) and retraining models as distributions shifted.
GenAI, however, introduces a fundamentally different paradigm, one where the center of gravity shifts decisively ...
