Chapter 8. Generative AI Governance Framework
You have completed several book chapters, including those explaining advanced AI techniques, the entire Microsoft Azure ecosystem for GenAI, and real-life operations for performance management. You already know the “main pieces” of this technology puzzle, but now we will complete it with real-life governance considerations.
This chapter features an applied GenAI governance framework that will include a combination of technology, organizational, and human considerations, all related to specific Microsoft services. The goal is to go between that full picture and the most tangible actions for you to complement your advanced, robust GenAI applications, with solid foundations for ethical AI implementations.
Because of the new and highly evolving nature of this topic, let’s first start with your mental framework to organize the GenAI governance exercise, and then proceed with the technical aspects.
Thought Process for Your AI Governance
In general terms, an AI governance program includes a combination of technology, processes, and people aspects, as you can see in Figure 8-1. The technology piece is there to help you enable processes, policies, and collaboration between people within the organization. Microsoft Azure contains some of them, but there are other adjacent Microsoft services such as Defender or Purview, among others, that converge with the Azure stack for AI and complete the end-to-end architecture.
