Annexure 1
CULTURE OF HUMAN AMNIOCYTES FOR CYTOGENETIC ANALYSIS
Aim: To set up an amniotic fluid culture by long term method. This process is applicable for clinical services and to help in genetic counseling.
Principle: Amniotic fluid represents a heterogeneous population of fetal cells and the chromosomal analysis of the cultured cells can be used to rule out any structural and/or numerical chromosomal anomalies.
Sample Type:
- Collect approximately 20 ml of amniotic fluid in sterile sample containers.
- Process all samples on the same day if possible. If processing is done at a later date, samples can be stored at room temperature for 24 hrs.
- Do not use contaminated samples or samples received in wrong containers.
