1. Groucho’s story comes from his son’s account: Arthur Marx, Life with Groucho: A Son’s-Eye View (New York: Simon & Schuster, 1954), 122–123. Arthur’s version was written over 20 years after the fact, and the incident occurred when Arthur himself was only 8 years old. How much of it is to be believed? Arthur admits that he has taken some liberties for the sake of telling a tale. It is likely that the RCA dividend story occurred in March 1929 rather than in October on the eve of the stock market Crash.
