It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
The services parameter
This parameter is used to specify extra Docker containers that can be connected to the test image to provision services. This is very handy for setting up databases to connect to, rather than needing to install your database engine on each build run. You can also specify this parameter in the top level (but it will be overriden by local definitions).
