Abstract

World energy development is a constant process of transformation and innovation. Since the first Industrial Revolution, two significant changes in world energy development have taken place, namely: substitution of coal for firewood and substitution of petroleum for coal. The shift has helped to meet the world’s ever-rising energy needs and fuel rapid socioeconomic growth. In the face of climate change, a new round of energy revolution is looming as an inexorable trend.
