Chapter 1 Why (another) book about globalization?

During the last three decades, books dealing in one way or another with globalization have progressively filled the shelves of bookstores and libraries. According to the raw data available from a very rapid consultation of Google Books Ngram Viewer (Figure 1.1), the trend is straightforward.

A line graph plots the percentage of globalization of books from 1980 to 2020. The percentage of globalization rose from 0.000 percent in 1980 to 0.025 percent in 1990, peaked at 0.425 in 2005, and finally reached 0.375 percent after 2015. All values are approximate.
