Appendix B. Installing and Configuring Google SketchUp 7

Installing the software is usually the first task that is required before you can work with the software. However, for most experienced users, the process of installing software is quite simple, so rather than spend time covering installation and configuration issues in the early chapters of this book, they have been placed in this out-of-the-way appendix.

If you've had no trouble installing and configuring the software, then you won't need to read this appendix. But if you have any trouble, or if you are curious, then you can use this appendix to guide you through the process and get some tips along the way.

Choosing an Operating System

If you're purchasing a new computer to run SketchUp and have the luxury of customizing your system, you can do several things to make life easier. One of your first decisions is what operating system to use. Google SketchUp can run on both Windows and Macintosh. Both operating systems enable you to run multiple copies of SketchUp at the same time on a single machine.

Installing to Windows

If you choose to run SketchUp on a Windows system, you can use Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista. Whichever Windows system you use, make sure that the latest Service Pack is installed (which you can download for free from Microsoft's ...
