Los volúmenes persistentes son una categoría específica del concepto más amplio de volúmenes con la capacidad de conservar datos más allá del ciclo de vida de un pod. La reclamación de volumen persistente representa el recurso de conexión entre un pod y un volumen persistente responsable de solicitar el almacenamiento.
Por último, el pod necesita reclamar el volumen persistente y montarlo en una ruta de directorio disponible para los contenedores que se ejecutan dentro del pod.
