When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Installing and configuring Node.js
The first step for preparing for our project is to install Node.js. There are two ways to do this:
- One option is to install the Node Version Manager (NVM). The benefit of using NVM is that you are easily able to run multiple versions of Node.js side by side and this handles the installation process for you on nearly all UNIX-based systems, such as Linux and macOS. Within this book, we do not need the option to switch between different versions of Node.js.
- The other option is to install Node.js via the package manager of your distribution if you are using Linux. The official PKG file is for Mac, whilst the MSI file is for Windows. We are going to use the regular Linux package manager for this book as it ...
