Flow control is a process by which a network makes sure that packets are transferred across the sender and received efficiently and without error. In the case of the network topology, the speeds of the sender and receiver can vary, which can lead to bottlenecks or loss of packets in some cases. With flow control, we can make decisions in case there's congestion on the network. Some strategies include storing data temporarily into buffers, rerouting data to other nodes, instructing source nodes to temporarily halt, discarding data, and so on.
