<layer>...</layer>
Navigator only. Originally introduced by
Netscape to identify distinct content objects as part of
Netscape’s DHTML implementation. Use of the
<layer> tage is discouraged, in favor of
Cascading Style Sheets with Positioning; in reality, the
<layer> tag is required for rendering DHTML
pages for Navigator 4.0.
Attributes
above=layer nameIdentifies the layer immediately above (in stacking order) the newly created layer. The named layer must already exist.
background=url(filename)Specifies an image to be used as the background.
below=layer nameIdentifies the layer immediately below the newly created layer. The named layer must already exist.
bgcolor=#rrggbborcolor nameSpecifies the background color of the layer.
clip=n,n,n,nDefines the boundaries of the clipping rectangle (visible area) of the layer.
The value is a set of four numbers, indicating in order, the left value, the top value, the right value and the bottom value. The left and right values are specified as pixels in from the left, while the top and bottom values are specified as pixels down from the origin of the layer.
height=number,percentageSpecifies the height of the layer.
id=textSpecifies the layer’s ID, so it can be referenced by other layers and JavaScript.
left=numberSpecifies the absolute horizontal position of the layer. The setting
left=50would position the layer 50 pixels from the left edge of the window. ...
