So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Creating connection objects in JDBC applications
The first step in any database application is establishing a connection to the database. DB2 provides different methods to create a database connection. In general, we have two types of database connectivity:
- Type-2 connectivity: This type of connectivity needs a database client installed on the host machine. It can only connect to local databases. If we want to use this type of connectivity to connect to a database available over the network, then we need to catalog that database on the client application host and then use this type of connectivity. The only specification provided to establish a connection is that the database name should be available in a local database directory.
