Chapter 4. Networking 55
4.2 Single Virtual I/O Server
The Virtual I/O Server is reliable and stable. If you are using a single
Virtual I/O Server, the best practices for networking are simple: Keep every
connection highly available. However, for concurrent updates and maintenance,
you must either have two Virtual I/O Servers or use the Live Partition Mobility
(LPM):
Use LA wherever possible. You achieve high availability and an increase in
network performance.
If you cannot use LA, use NIB.
Single Virtual I/O Server setups are common on hardware that have a limited
number of ports. If possible, use VLAN tagging.
Use ports from different adapters that are in different enclosures and I/O
drawers.
