20.2.1 Behavior before Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5
Figure 20-1 demonstrates the serialized access to a FILE volume. This is the default behavior
with a pre-V5.5 Tivoli Storage Manager server.

NODE1 and NODE2 request a restore of their data that is backed up to the pool, while
NODE3 is doing a backup. Earlier server versions do not allow for parallel access of FILE
volumes, therefore the running backup session gets preempted by a restore request. The
activity log reports the messages as shown with Example 20-5.
