2.9 Objective of Parallel Sysplex development
The primary objective when developing the sysplex, and later the Parallel Sysplex, was to
provide a price-competitive computing facility for large commercial processing systems. It is
only when you consider the parameters within which this objective was reached that you can
appreciate the significance of the achievement of the Parallel Sysplex. These parameters
were:
