There is a general rule, however, that applies in most cases. Programs which run well in a
non-data sharing environment will probably run well when sharing data. Those that do not
run well will almost certainly not run well when sharing data. Part of the planning process
will be to try to identify any characteristics of the applications or databases which would
make them poor performers when migrated to a data sharing environment.
