Parliamentary Executive in India

CHAPTER OBJECTIVES

While it is the legislative that passes laws and decides the policy, it is the executive that carries out the day-to-day administration and the execution of those laws and policies. As India has a parliamentary democracy, the executive system is based on the system of popular, elected government that is responsible to the legislature. In addition, most legislation in India is enacted only on the initiative and support of the executive. This chapter will explore the structure, features and functions of the executive in India.
