Introduction
Thiruvalluvar is one of the most celebrated poets in Tamil Nadu. He wrote Thirukkural, a highly regarded ethical work in Tamil literature. It is written in the form of couplets and is considered as prima facie evidence of intellectual tradition of Tamil society. Its period of composition is unknown but it is considered to be more than 2,000 years old. It is respected by the Tamils irrespective of their religions, and has been quoted by all the sections of the Tamil society, irrespective of their castes and cultures.
