A.1 Overview

Exercise 1.1 Examine your computer system and clarify how many nodes it has, what node types are available, and by what network(s) they are connected.

The Lenovo P50 I am writing this book on is a full-featured single-node engineering workstation. The cluster I am using for test runs involving networking is so special that I do not feel that I can describe it here.

Exercise 1.2 Examine your computing nodes and find out what kind of processor(s) they exhibit, how many cores and threads they run, what memory type and what caches they use, and what networking and graphics capabilities they have.
