7.1. Introduction
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a new paradigm making it possible to improve human quality of life while still ensuring that advanced intelligent services are used in our daily lives by means of interconnecting different objects (telephones, sensors, etc.) and entities (human, animal, etc.). These services create new security challenges in this type of environment, which require specific measures to improve the security level and in particular to protect information that transits via IoT infrastructures. One of the major challenges of the IoT involves the limitations in terms of energy capacities, processing capacities and the capacities of its components’ memory. Consequently, adaptation of different security mechanisms is a requirement in this IoT environment to meet these limitations. In this chapter, we define in section 7.2 the different security services in the IoT. Then, section 7.3 presents the most widespread access control techniques. In section 7.4, we study research on access control in the IoT. This work relates to the adaptation of access control models and the adaptation of access control systems and technologies by considering the characteristics of the IoT. Then, we propose in section 7.5 our adaptation of access control in the IoT. This adaptation is based on an access control architecture and mechanism ...
