Tu viens peut-être d’un autre milieu avant de découvrir l’univers Java, ou alors c’est peut-être ta première expérience en programmation informatique. Quel que soit le chemin que tu aies parcouru pour en arriver là, bienvenue — on est ravis que tu sois là.
Java est un environnement de programmation puissant et polyvalent. C’est l’un des environnements de programmation les plus utilisés au monde et il connaît un succès exceptionnel dans le domaine de l’informatique d’entreprise depuis plus de 30 ans.
Dans ce chapitre, on va te présenter le contexte en décrivant le langage Java (dans lequel les programmeurs écrivent leurs applications), l’environnement d’exécution Java (appelé « machine virtuelle Java », qui exécute ces applications) et l’écosystème Java (qui apporte une grande partie de la valeur de cet environnement de programmation aux équipes de développement).
Ces trois concepts (langage, environnement d’exécution et écosystème) sont généralement désignés simplement par le terme « Java », leur signification précise se déduisant du contexte. En pratique, ces notions sont tellement liées que cela n’est pas aussi déroutant qu’on pourrait le croire à première vue.
