A component is another type of extension. component exists in the same area of the web page where the articles also go. Only one component can exist on each page.

Other components, such as banners and polls, are configured under the component menu. This is where you enter data about the poll or choose the banner images to display. Their display, however, happens via a module.

This chapter covers some of the most commonly used components that come with Joomla. Many other components are available for download. I list some commonly used third-party components in the Appendix, "Jen's Favorite Joomla! Extensions."

CONTACTS

The Contacts component provides an easy way to display contact information, including a contact form, about a given person, people, or an institution, on a web site.

The Contacts component is also excellent for quickly and easily adding a "Contact Us" page to a web site. The pre-programmed form lets site visitors complete a name, e-mail address, subject, and message, all of which are e-mailed to an address of the listed contact.

Figure 9-1 shows a typical contact page.
