In this chapter we look at the six features of lighting; quality, direction, contrast, evenness, colour and intensity, and how lighting can be used to express (or repress) chosen aspects such as texture, form, depth, detail and mood. We will cover essential lighting equipment, working with available and mixed lighting as well as solving lighting problems.
The way you select and organise your lighting is highly creative and individualistic – in fact you will find lighting one of the most stimulating, exciting aspects of photography.
