So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Datenbanken gehören zu den ersten Anwendungen von Computern überhaupt. Was aber ist eine Datenbank eigentlich? Kurz gesagt: eine strukturierte Ablage von Daten, oft in Form von Tabellen. Diese können zueinander in Beziehung gesetzt werden – darin liegt der große Vorteil einer Datenbank gegenüber einer einfachen Tabelle. Hier ein Beispiel:
Nehmen wir eine Bibliothek. Die Bücher können in verschiedene Kategorien unterteilt werden, zum Beispiel Jahrgang, Thema, Sachbuch oder Belletristik etc. Außerdem werden die Autoren, die ISBN-Nummer und vielleicht der Kaufpreis erfasst. In einer Datenbank werden diese Informationen nun derart abgelegt, dass komplexe Abfragen ermöglicht werden, zum Beispiel welche Bücher ...
