Part I. Getting Snow Leopard Server Up and Running

Snow Leopard Server is an amazingly versatile and scalable solution, serving a small workgroup or acting as part of an integrated network of thousands of users. So it may not be surprising that the process of getting it up and running can involve vastly different software and hardware configurations.

This part describes the many different services available to your users and the hardware the server runs on, from the little Mac mini to the beefy Xserve, and how to pick the best Mac model for your use of the server.

Snow Leopard Server offers several possibilities of installation, depending on your use. The part shows you how to get ready for your installation and how to install it in different scenarios, including how to set up Snow Leopard on a Mac without a monitor.

This part also gives you another installation option: virtualization. This technique lets you set up a test server without needing to dedicate a Mac to the purpose. Virtualization also enables you to run multiple instances of Snow Leopard Server on one Mac. You can even run Snow Leopard Server and Windows Server on the same Mac.
