Setting up a network is all about sharing: files, folders, hard drives, optical drives, printers, and so on. One of the best things to share over a network is an Internet connection, because that means that you only need a single account with an ISP, and you only need to configure a single connection.
Most networks share an Internet connection using a router, or a hardware device that includes routing capabilities, such as the AirPort Extreme wireless base station that you learned about in Chapter 18, “Wireless Networking with Mac OS X.” This involves the following general steps:
