Foreword

A few months ago, I read a story in the New York Times about Tekserve, an iconoclastic Mac-only repair shop in Manhattan. I approached David Lerner, one of the founders, about writing a Mac hardware book for us. No time, he said. But he mentioned that he’d written an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) document that Tekserve gives out to its customers and makes available for download on its web site (www.tekserve.com).

It’s not the Mac Hardware in a Nutshell that I was hoping for, but it’s a pretty darn useful document for any Mac user out there, and I thought it was worth sharing with Mac users who don’t happen to live in New York City or its environs, so I asked David if I could publish it as a little pocket guide.

Fortunately, he was willing to entertain the notion. I hope you enjoy Tekserve’s advice as much as I have.
