Trim the ground wires from the buttons to
reduce excess cable inside the case (Figure
Cc
).
This will make the soldering step much easier
later. (It’s common to use black wires for ground,
but I used the red wires here; due to my non-
technical background, I tend to deviate from
common best practices!).
3c. Install the potentiometers by feeding them
through the holes in the dial faceplate (Figure
Dd
). Secure each one with its washer and nut,
tightening them just enough to keep them from
spinning (Figure
Ee
).
NOTE: Hacking cassette players is never
perfectly consistent. Even when using the same
model, the same potentiometer value can behave
differ ...
