Training transfer has come a long way, and it has a long way yet to go. I first began writing about training transfer some 20 years ago. At the time very little information was available on the subject. My co-author Dora Johnson and I developed the first set of TIEs in our book Making Training Stick, based on our own experiences as trainers and on conversations with other trainers we knew or had met in the course of our many presentations to ASTD conferences, chapter meetings, and other trainer gatherings.
