My mother had a small sign near our kitchen table my entire life. Today I still recall the words… good, better, best… I don't believe we get to best when it comes to engagement. How can you when it concerns people? We always want more, different, better. But I do believe in the spirit, in the need to continue the quest. You never know what is around the next corner.
2020 changed the way we look at work, the way we look at resources and assets, the way we look at our businesses, the way we look at value. It was the greatest disruption of our generation. No one escaped its impact – not the rich, not the poor, no country, or industry. It was a catastrophe for many or a welcome growth injection for a few. It was hard work and high stress for still others. It created the B2P that leaders at every level know in their hearts they need to achieve – a business made up first and foremost of people connecting with people.
If it didn't change your world, it likely should have. The challenge for most firms was to maintain business continuity while executing reparative and restorative strategies and initiatives. And clearly, to do this effectively required a change in the way we engaged people. The globally underenthused could not create the needed safe, productive, purpose-driven new reality.
