Before joining Oracle, I worked as a programmer, a data analyst, and, especially relevant to this discussion, a system administrator. I worked with a range of enterprise applications, both home-grown and off-the-shelf. Most of these were based around typical back-office processes such as inventory management, order fulfillment, production processing, and sales and marketing.
