The diamond model of intrusion analysis is a methodology that was developed to verify cyber threats. Every incident can be represented as a diamond. This cognitive model is used by many information security analysts to characterize organized threats consistently and track them as they evolve.
The four nodes of the diamond are as follows:
- Adversary (bad guy persona)
- Infrastructure (such as IP addresses, domain names, and email addresses)
- Capabilities (such as malware, exploits, and stolen certs)
- Victims (such as people and network assets)
