Although installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a rocket ship with unlimited RAM, one terabyte of solid-state storage, and the latest quad-core Intel processor might definitely be desirable (not to mention expensive!), it is absolutely not necessary to perform the exercises designed for this book.
Keep in mind that some of the exercises are very RAM intensive; virtual machines are used extensively to re-create the scenarios discussed. Also, some applications listed in Table B-1 are virtual-aware, meaning that they know if they are installed in a virtual environment and might not function as intended or advertised depending on the version.
