Server Roles
A server is designed to provide services. Therefore, Windows Server 2008 has organized the most common services into server roles, in which a server role describes the function of the server. When you define a server role in Windows Server 2008 (see Table 1.1), you are installing and configuring a set of software programs that enable a computer to perform a specific function for multiple users or other computers within a network. To install roles, you would use the Initial Configuration Tasks window or the Server Manager console.
