It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Welcome to the command line. There's a tendency to think of Microsoft products as highly GUI-driven in terms of management, which is true, but the command-line interface hasn't been ignored. The fact that this is a requirement for the exam says that it's most likely a requirement for the job. With that in mind, get ready to click Start 
Run, and then type cmd in the Run box and have some fun.
