The queen cautioned the king in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland that if he did not make a memorandum of the moment, he would forget it. Similarly, if the experimental results are not reported, they, and all the efforts behind them, will be lost.
Technical communication involves more than just presenting the experimental results in written or oral form. The experiment must be described thoroughly to the extent that another experimentalist could independently repeat the experiment. Its results must be expressed in the proper units, with their values having the correct number of significant figures and uncertainties.
