Software architecture is a broad discipline that can target different levels. System architecture, or macro architecture, focuses on the overall structure of a system and the interaction between its parts. Most of the technical topics described in Chapters 1 and 2 are primarily about system design. On a lower level, the concept of service architecture is concerned with the structure of individual parts. More precisely, as its name suggests, its main focus is the runtime view. Yet, there are many constellations where the runtime layout of a system does not align with its architectural boundaries.
