1 Introduction

This final chapter serves the purpose of recapitulating and reflecting on the results of the five case studies that make up the present research project.

Section 2 is a summary and an examination of the results of the case studies with respect to the first goal of the book. That first goal was to test the two hypotheses advanced in Ch. 1, section 1. In section 2.1 we deal with the support found in the case studies for the first hypothesis, the one related to the analytical levels of one and the same utterance over which metonymy operates.
