Formatting Text as You Type
Word’s list formatting capabilities are just one example of its ability to intuit how you are going to want to format an element based on what you type. For example, instead of manually creating a line by typing underscores (_) across the length of a page, you can type three consecutive hyphens (-) and press 
to have Word’s AutoFormat feature draw a single line across the page. Or you can type three consecutive equal signs (=) and press to have Word draw a double line.
