Pretty much the first thing I do when I get a new computer (after I work through all the startup and installation stuff, that is) is go to work on the desktop. I like to personalize the way my desktop looks; I want my own background image, collection of shortcut icons, gadgets, and the like. I’m like most folks in this matter; I want to customize the Windows desktop to fit both the way I work and my personality.
All of which leads us to this chapter, which I know will be the most read chapter in the book. It’s also one of the longest, as there are a lot of things you can customize in Windows 7. After all, personalizing the desktop is the most visually apparent way to have Windows your way!
