This chapter discusses the system catalog of the Database Engine. The introduction is followed by a description of the structure of several catalog views, each of which allows you to retrieve metadata. The use of dynamic management views and dynamic management functions is also covered in the first part of the chapter. Three property interfaces for retrieving metadata information are discussed in the second part: system stored procedures, system functions, and property functions.
