5.1 Introduction

A lab-on-a-chip (LOC) is a miniaturized device that performs one or several laboratory functions on a single integrated circuit or chip of only few millimeters to centimeters to achieve automation and high-throughput screening such as DNA sequencing, biochemical detection^.
