I always say that the future of AI isn't about building smarter individual agents; it's about building agents that can work together intelligently.
Initially, most multi-agent projects were curiosity-driven experiments rather than purposeful collaborations. Researchers were exploring what was possible without yet having a practical framework for coordination. Coordination was hard, the communication overhead was significant, and the benefits rarely justified the complexity. But AI has changed everything. Modern AI agents are sophisticated enough to make multi-agent coordination not just feasible, but incredibly powerful.
