be monolithic and confined to a single node but may be distributed over the
network. New knowledge resources may either complement or replace older
resources in such dynamic scenario. In this context, alignment of distributed
knowledge resources and its use in processing huge volumes of information
distributed over the network, as described in chapter 9, assumes special sig-
