These options generally don’t cause errors, but can have a dramatic effect on performance. Usually you run the server under various real-life loads while tuning them until you have a combination that works well for your particular environment.
However, there is one situation when such an option can cause an
error, and removing it from the configuration file or reducing its value
can make sense. This is when your server hits an out-of-resources error.
The most common cases involve a lack of memory or file descriptors. If you
find yourself in such a situation, use the --no-defaults method from the previous section
to find the option that’s too big.
